It is unique in that it can accept any kind of OSC input and quickly assign it to parameters on the device attached to it. You can also have multiple versions of the same device on various tracks. All you have to do is drag “UDP Ableton Device Control” into a track and add any effect to it’s right. Works with any kind of interface that sends OSC, and mac or windows.

Playing Dubstep with guitar? Hell yea!

    March 18, 2011 | Posted By: | composition · concert · mocap · performance |

In my mission of moving from behind the computer when performing my digital compositions, I was able to control my whole set from the guitar and wii remote. This includes synths notes and song selection.

A live performance showing what you can do:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QLwasWvjpU

I use a Wii remote in this video to capture the x,y,z acceleration of the guitar. But nowadays i use my iphone. Use can use anything really, as long as it connects with the computer.

Check out the video below for a walk through. The software i use is Ableton Live. Full info in video description. You can download the Max for Live Device I developed here downloads

If you are also interested in playing electronic music (and it’s nastier sibling, Dubstep) using ONLY beat boxing techniques press play in this video. Beats, pads and synth are all done using my voice–looped and fucked up by various effects.
